I am who I am because of everyone.

I am my Mum who taught me from right and wrong,
and my Nan who taught me how to cook.
I am my boyfriend who always makes me smile,
and my sister who got me into books.
I am the memories I have shared with my friends and my family.
I am my geography teacher who believed in me,
and my ambitions that keep me motivated.

I am who I am because of everyone.

During this week in Comms we have explored a lot about high culture and popular culture.
I have learned a lot about high culture.

High culture is a term used to describe elite aristocratic culture. It is usually used to describe a culture in the arts, but has been use to separate the 'elite' from the 'uncivilised.' The positives to High culture is that it is inspirational, it is difficult to access meaning more exclusive and it gets the audience to engage, think and view their opinions on it.
Matthew Arnold comes into High Culture. He believed that everyone should be educated to appreciate the arts and that society would improve because of it as there would be no anarchy. F.R Leavis also supported this view, believing that it could have a civilising effect on people.

Popular culture on the other hand is basically the types of entertainment that most people in society enjoy for example, TV programmes, music in the charts, online gaming and films. It is also the way people dress e.g. the labels they wear: Adidas. Nike, Converse etc.
Raymond Williams believes that ''culture is ordinary''.
Some negatives to Popular Culture are that it's too common meaning its repetitive with no individuality. Also, it is not challenging and if you don't follow popular and mainstream culture you wont be accepted and will be pushed away.

During this week in Comms I have learned a lot. We spent alot of time talking about identity and what makes us, us. The things that make us, us is the things we wear, our background- where we're from, our ethnicity, our family, our social class, our gender, our personality, the style our hair is etc. All these things communicate what we are to people around us.
We also spoke about idiolect, sociolect, dialect, accent and the processor where there has to be a sender, message sent and a reciever for communication to work. This happens in all sorts of way, with advertisemnt to the clothes we pick out to wear etc.
